The Women's
Health Advisory Council, created in March 2006 by Gov.
Richardson, continues to have a strong voice in women's
health issues in the state. On April 9, 2008, the WHAC
sponsored its second annual Women's Health Policy Forum,
entitled "Unnatural Causes: Is Inequity Making Us Sick?
A Sex and Gender Analysis of Inequities in Health." Also
in the news this past year: the HPV vaccine. The WHAC
position paper on this controversial subject urges
availability of the vaccine for young women before they
are sexually active.
